Nokia Lumia 920 is still to be launched for sale in the market but the market analysts have started to compare it with its predecessor, Nokia Lumia 900 and look out for the changes that differ this ‘masterpiece’ with the previous dictator of the series. We have also tried to point out the main points of differences and check out whether our results match with the others or not.

DESIGN AND OVERVIEW:

The Nokia Lumia 920 is bigger, thinner and heavier than its predecessor, Nokia Lumia 900. The smart phone measures around 10.7 mm in thickness as compared with 11.5 mm but accompanies a considerable amount of hand-strain with a weight tag of 185 grams, 25 grams more than Nokia Lumia 900. Packing an equal amount of aesthetical value, both the smart phones exhibit luxury in their design with superb curves and display nice color combinations.

SCREEN AND DISPLAY:

As the AMOLED display has been slightly enlarged to 4.5 inch, it is not just the right thing to look at when the developers have researched so much on the “brightest display ever”. With less response time, the PureMotion HD+ display offers a ‘better than HD’ performance. The resolution of Nokia Lumia 920 is much higher at 1,280×768 in comparison with 800×480 for Nokia Lumia 900. With a display aspect retio of 15:9, it will be a great deal for web browsers, gamers as the thumb reaches more easily to the top and cover the entire scroll. The ClearBlack technology, which was first offered in Nokia Lumia 900 to help users operate the phone outdoors, has also been further advanced.

TECH-SPECS:

The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with a Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor with 1 GB RAM in comparison with the Single-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor of Nokia Lumia 900 with 512 MB RAM. Therefore, the new model is promised to be fast as well as support a greater no. of heavy apps that require fast processing like action games, etc. Also, the memory support has been extended to 32 GB from 16 GB which was a necessary feature to be added.

CAMERA:

The Nokia Lumia 900 though promised to set a milestone, yet disappointed most of the users with its average camera performance. Now, Nokia Lumia 920 is yet another promising product of the same franchise and is on the verge of the same position. But under the PureView brand, the 8.7MP auto focus camera lens with real optical image stabilization system and high-quality Carl Zeiss optics included in its embarking features’ list, the phone is expected with a different end result this time. The secondary camera is also superior in Nokia Lumia 920 with its 1.3MP camera compared to 1MP camera of its predecessor.

NETWORK CONNECTIVITY:

Both the phones are LTE supported but the services are yet to be announced. Whereas Nokia Lumia 920 features Bluetooth 3.1, Nokia Lumia 900 is supported with 2.1+EDR.

BATTERY LIFE:

Nokia Lumia 920 is equipped with a 2,000 mAh battery can provide a video playback for 7 hours. Nokia Lumia 900 features a slightly less powerful 1,830 mAh battery with a battery backup of 6 hours.

WIRELESS CHARGING:

Nokia Lumia 920 has become the first smart phone to avail wireless charging facility for its power source. It features QI integrated wireless pad so that you can charge your phone without needing to connect it with a wire.

NFC:

NFC enables you to exchange data and allow communication between two devices with just a touch or in a close proximity. While Nokia Lumia 900 was absent with any such features, Nokia Lumia 920 is fully supported with NFC on similar Nokia devices.

PRICE:

Both the high-end phones are capable to put a hole in your pocket. While the price of Nokia Lumia 920 is yet to be announced, the price (on contract) for Nokia Lumia 900 is $50 AT&T.

CONCLUSION:

Just looking at the comparison, one can easily declare Nokia Lumia 920 as the clear winner. Still, we are eagerly waiting for the launch of this handset for sale in the market and only then can we testify our analysis with the results.

There have been rumors around the release of the next version of Windows operating system, Windows Phone 8. But it is to be reminded that the current Windows Phone 7.x devices will not be able to run or update to Windows Phone 8. Also, new applications are being compiled specifically for Windows Phone 8 and will not be made available for Windows Phone 7.x devices. That’s why; equally popular has been the discussion around the release of the last updated version of the current Windows Phone 7 platform, WP 7.8 among the user community as it is their last hope to meet the next level of technology.

WP7.8 (codename Apollo) is the last major version of Windows Phone 7 and is the successor of the previous major version, WP7.5 (codename mango). The version is expected to be released in the last quarter of 2012 and is considered as a trailer of the Windows Phone 8. It’s because several of the features that one would find in WP8 are present in WP7.8 and the most popular of them is the interface. In the new operating system, the users will have the ability to resize the tiles to three different sizes according to their requirements. This is one of the features of the WP8 and will completely redefine the display. Also, there are some unspecified features that the users of WP7.8 will share with those of WP8.

All the current Windows devices will be delivered upgrades to WP7.8. It will be sold alongside WP8 in the future as a low spec version. That’s why, Nokia has decided to take out all its WP8 based devices one by one starting with the low spec devices first so that the current user community doesn’t feel to be cheated or pushed out.

Let’s see what ‘new’ this platform brings to the current options.

This article will guide you on how to transfer contacts on your New Nokia Lumia.

There are many ways to transfer contacts to your new Nokia Lumia depending on where they are currently being stored. They can be stored in your old phone, any online service or your PC as well. We will provide you a detailed solution for each one of these three cases:

1. FROM YOUR OLD PHONE:

If you want to transfer contacts from your old phone, then first you need to determine whether your old phone operated with or without a SIM card.

So, there are further two cases and we will give you a detailed step by step procedure for each one:

To import contacts from SIM card:

For importing your contacts from a SIM card, first you need to create a Windows Live account so that all the contacts will automatically be synced with that account and won’t be deleted from the SIM. Otherwise, your contacts will be stored in your phone memory. You can create your Windows Live account here www.live.com

Follow these steps to import contacts from your SIM card:

In the app menu, tap People.

Then, select More (…), and tap Settings.

Tap Import SIM contacts and follow the instructions.

To import contacts from Phone Memory:

If your contacts are stored in Phone memory of old phone, you can use the Contacts Transfer app in Nokia Lumia. All you need is that your old phone must be Bluetooth supported.

Here is the detailed procedure:

Make sure that Bluetooth is switched ‘ON’ on your old phone.

On the start screen of your new phone, go to the apps menu, and select Contacts Transfer.

Select Continue, and switch Bluetooth on.

Search for the devices and select the one you want to transfer the contacts from.

Follow the instructions on the screen.

2. TO IMPORT CONTACTS FROM AN ONLINE SERVICE:

If your contacts are stored on an online service like Windows Live, Google or even any social networking site like Facebook, Twitter, etc. then all you need to do is just set up that account on your phone and all your contacts will be synced automatically.

To setup the account on your phone, follow these steps:

From the start screen, go to apps menu, select Settings, and then tap Email + accounts.

Tap Add an account, tap Windows Live.

If this is your first time signing with a Windows Live ID yet during setup, the before you sign in screen appears. On this screen, tap Next.

Enter your Windows Live ID in the Email address box and password in the password box.

Tap Sign in.

Your Windows Live email, contacts, calendar, etc. will be synced to your phone.

3. TO IMPORT CONTACTS FROM YOUR PC:

If you want to sync contacts and calendar information to your Windows Phone using Microsoft Office Outlook, you may follow the steps below:

Create a Windows Live ID if you don’t already have one. You can create it here www.live.com

On your PC, install a free tool called Microsoft Office Outlook Hotmail Connector.

In Microsoft Outlook on your PC, use Outlook Hotmail Connector to add your Window Live account to Outlook, and then copy your contacts and calendar from Outlook into Windows Live.

This article is dedicated to guide you on how to back up SMS on a Nokia Lumia Smart phone.

There is no SMS backup in a Nokia Lumia smart phone. Zune software doesn’t allow the users to sync their SMS with their PC device. However, if you are updating your phone with Zune software, a backup for your data is the first priority. But if you have to reset your phone, then you will end up losing all your SMS due to lack of backup. But still, there are some conditional methods which you can follow if it’s too important for you.

Upload Copy/Paste notes to Skydrive:

Copy the text from the SMS requiring backup.

Paste all the text on a notepad.

Go to the Office app.

Go to locations and open Skydrive.

Upload the notepad file from the phone to Skydrive.

Now, your data has an online backup that you can access from your PC device as well.

But there is a limitation that you will have to copy/paste all SMS one by one.

Unofficial Apps:

There are some unofficial apps that have not been recognized by Microsoft to be safe. But they are doing well in the market. One such app, SMS Backup allows the users to export individual and group of SMS to Skydrive or isolated storage on the device. You can also filter SMS by date and keywords.

Here is the detailed procedure to proceed:

First, make sure that your device Interop is unlocked. This means that your device can install unofficial apps as well.

Then, select the SMS you want to provide backup to.

Go to export and backup.

Then, either export the SMS to isolated storage or upload it to Skydrive.

Also, choose the format you want for the backup file i.e. txt or xml.

For uploading to Skydrive, sign into your account using your Windows Live ID.

Then, tap Upload SMS to Skydrive and confirm.

This article is dedicated to guide you on how to delete multiple contacts on a Nokia Lumia Smart phone.

Currently, it is not possible in any Windows based phone to delete multiple contacts at one time from the phone. You can delete contacts one by one individually but it is not preferred and also removes your contacts from your Windows Live account. However, you can follow one of the following ways to do so:

Windows Live:

All Windows based phones are synchronized with Windows Live account of the user. With Windows Live ID, you can download content from Marketplace, back up your contacts, upload, store and share pictures and documents on Microsoft Skydrive and much more. Therefore, it is recommended to all the Windows phone users to create one. Also, there are many tools which can only be accessed from your Windows Live account and one of them is ‘Deleting multiple contacts’. This is because in any Windows phone, all your contacts are primarily stored in your Windows Live account and then synced from there.

Here is a step by step procedure to remove multiple contacts from your Windows Live account:

Connect your phone with your PC with USB cable connector.

Open your internet browser and log in to your account on Windows Live at www.live.com.

Then, from the outlook tab, switch to People Hub.

Select Manage and go to clean contacts.

From there, you can remove all the contacts you want.

Phone Reset:

If you don’t want to go that far, you can also reset your phone and create a new Windows Live account. That will also remove all your contacts. But remember that first, you will not have any choice to keep some of the contacts and second, all your backup data will also be lost.

Delete a Group:

Though there is no option available to delete multiple contacts, still Windows allows users to create Groups of contacts. With Groups created, you can send a message to all the contacts in that group with a single tap. So, if you want to delete all the contacts of a particular group, you can do that as follows:

Go to ‘People’ hub and select the Group you want to delete.

Tap the ellipsis icon (…) at the bottom of the screen.

Select delete and tap it once again for conformation.

Recording phone calls is a very easy task in Windows Mobile phones. There is an official Windows app called Call Recorder that is available in the Marketplace for free. The purpose of the app is to enable the user to record an audio clip of the telephonic conversation.

Here is a step by step procedure on how to use this software to record calls:

As you make a phone call or answer a call, first tell the other party that “I am going to record this call.” This is considered important so as to avoid leading to any personal disclosures.

Then, TURN ON the speaker for best quality.

Tap the Windows key and return to the start menu.

Open the “Call Recorder” app.

Tap the microphone icon to start recording. (Icon turns into red to indicate that the recording has initiated).

Once the call is over, tap the microphone icon again.

Once the sound is recorded, you can play it back from the playback page any no. of times you want. Also, you can rate the important conversations with stars.

iPhone 5 has made its way to the market recently. The phone has been officially launched and will soon be available for purchase as well. But there are rumors that phone has nothing new to boast about. Adding, one of the hot cakes of discussion was Nokia Lumia 900 prior to its launch. There were a lot innovative ideas culminated into this product. Let’s see how long these rumors survive.

DESIGN AND OVERVIEW:

Going true with the rumors, iPhone 5 is thinner and taller than the iPhone 4S. The new iPhone is 18 percent thinner with 0.37 inch thickness and also 20 percent lighter for a total of 3.95 ounces. Also, the glass back is replaced with a metal one corresponding to the fact that many users broke their iPhones accidently. Comparing with Nokia Lumia 900, the smart phone is praiseful for its beautiful design and polycarbonate body. But it is a bulky phone weighing 5.64 ounce and having a thickness of 0.45 inches.

SCREEN AND DISPLAY:

With the new iPhone 5, the Retina display has expanded from 3.5 inches to 4 inches at 326 pixels per inch. With a resolution of 1,136×640, the phone offers a wider aspect ratio of 16:9, which will result in greater space for messaging and apps as well. Apple has also promised for wide-screen movies, owing to 44 percent more color saturation.

On the other hand, Nokia Lumia 900 comes with a 4.3-inch capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The screen is raised slightly above the body to give an impression as if it is coming out to you. Also, to keep the phone display bright in sunlight, the phone manufacturers have developed ClearBlack technology, for adjusting brightness, color and contrast details by using a polarizing filter to cut off the reflections while the Corning Gorilla Glass protects the AMOLED display.

CAMERA:

With iPhone 4S proving to be a milestone in the camera industry for phones, iPhone 5 with its 8 mega pixel camera’s improved low light image clarity and panaroma shooting mode has a lot to offer to the fans. Nokia, with its 8MP auto focus camera lens with Nokia’s customary Carl Zeiss optics next to an unobtrusive dual LED flash is good but not brilliant. The image quality in low light is not up to the mark and the image bursts out on zooming.

NETWORK CONNECTIVITY:

iPhone 5 is Verizon and Sprint LTE supported. But due to limitation of the technology, both these networks cannot handle voice and data at the same time. The only way to do both is to be on Wi-Fi. Nokia is also limited to EE LTE for now and the services are yet to be announced by the company.

BATTERY LIFE:

Nokia Lumia 920 is equipped with a 1,830 mAh battery can provide a video playback for 7 hours. The capacity of battery of iPhone 5 is yet to be announced but the apple officials claim it to offer a handy amount of 10 hours of video playback and 8 hours of web surfing.

NFC:

NFC enables you to exchange data and allow communication between two devices with just a touch or in a close proximity. Apple’s iPhone 5 didn’t disclose about any of the availabilities of the technology and might be missing here. However, Nokia is fully supported with NFC on similar Nokia devices.

PRICE:

While Nokia Lumia 900 is priced at around $660 for 16 GB, iPhone comes with different price tags of $199 for 16 GB, $299 for 32 GB and $399 for 64 GB variants.

CONCLUSION:

The technical specs of the iPhone 5 are yet to be announced. The phone debuts the operating system iOS 6.0 while Nokia Lumia 900 uses the Windows Phone 7.5 (tango) version. But going with the information we have, both the phones are customer specific and will share their own fans. However, Nokia with some advanced modifications might be able to raise its market value.

Nokia Lumia 920 has been under much hype since its release. The main reasons being it is the next primary high end phone under the Lumia series and there are many new features new to the concept. But equally sensitive has been Samsung ATIV S under the ATIV series of Samsung with it to be the first smart phone running Windows Phone 8 platform. Let’s check out how the competition stands between the two:

DESIGN AND OUTLOOK:

There is no challenge to Nokia Lumia 920 in terms of design and looks right now with a no. of colors available for the polycarbonate body of the phone and the gloss-y touch will make you believe like if it is a glass body. On the other hand, Samsung ATIV S is bigger yet thinner and way lighter than the former. A weight difference of 50 grams and 2mm thickness is more than enough in these high end phones and might prove to be a game changer for Samsung.

DISPLAY:

Samsung ATIV S boasts a big 4.8 inch display, similar to the one you’ll find on Samsung S3. With an aspect ratio of 16:9, the screen has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a pixel density of 306 ppi approximately. In comparison, Nokia with its 4.5 inch AMOLED display with PureMotion HD+ technology, at a resolution of 1,280×768 pixels with a pixel density of 332 pixels per inch, packs a solid package. Also, Nokia Lumia 920 has its ClearBlack technology which is an automatically activating system for adjusting brightness, color and contrast details by using a polarizing filter to cut off the reflections, to compensate for lighting and intended to deliver a clear display in the bright sun. No such feature has yet been discovered in the Samsung ATIV S.

TECH-SPECS:

Both the smart phones come with a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset, which comes with dual core 1.5GHz Krait processor and an Adreno 225 GPU. Also, both the phones run the same new generation Windows Phone 8 Operating System. While Lumia 920 has 32GB internal memory and 1GB RAM, Ativ S comes with 16GB/32GB internal memory and 1GB RAM. However, there is no SD card slot in both the phones.

CAMERA:

The Samsung ATIV S comes with an 8MP rare camera with autofocus, LED flash and geo-tagging features and a front facing 1.9MP camera for video calling. In comparison, Nokia bears an 8.7MP front facing camera and a 1.2MP rare camera. But there are some trump cards for Nokia like PureMotion technology, high-quality Carl Zeiss optics and a bigger aperture which can capture up to 10 times more light compared to competitors and an advanced optical image stabilization system. But Nokia Lumia 900 was a big disappointment and we will have to wait on how much Nokia delivers this time.

BATTERY:

Nokia Lumia 920 is equipped with a 2,000mAh battery promised to give a good playback time with Windows operating system being economical in the past as well. On the other hand, Samsung ATIV S is loaded with a slightly better 2,300mAh Li-Po battery.

LTE:

While previously there was no confirmation of the LTE carrier for Nokia other than AT&T, recently there have been some rumors regarding Verizon to be including both Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung ATIV S in their roadmap list for the upcoming Windows Phone 8 platform releasing in November. Going by the rumors, it will be a huge gift for users of both the phones as well as Windows users. Previously, only AT&T was available as the carrier for Nokia.

CONNECTIVITY:

Both the phones go hand to hand in connectivity front packed with features such as HSDPA, HSUPA, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth with A2DP and EDR, micro USB 2.0 and USB on the go.

PRICE:

Pricing of both the phones is yet to be announced but it is certain that both these high-end phones will end in almost the same price bucket.

VERDICT:

As we follow the above discussion, one cannot end upon a proper verdict as for now. We still have to cater for the performance that each phone will deliver. While the competition seems to go neck by neck right now, it can shift to any direction. While we know that Samsung is a ‘performer’ and can’t be under estimated, Nokia has its ace cards out for now. Let’s see who’s the winner: experience or talent.

The following information will be based on an informatory image created by CouponAudit. Here we have marked out some of the important points.

Going with the statistics, currently there are 1 billion Smartphone users in the world and within United States, this account for 45% of the total phone users. It depicts the increasing dominance of Smartphones among the market share along with constant decrease in the non-Smartphone category. More than 60% of the total users belong to the major age group of 18-44 years. This includes all the college students and the working class of our society which is the most active age group.

Now, this was all about the phone distribution. Now, let’s head to the actual market structure consisting of different groups like Android, Apple, Nokia, Samsung, etc. While Google’s Android doesn’t seem to stop with a 1.4% gain in its subscribers from April, 2012 to July, 2012, Apple too has registered a big increase in subscribers of 2% owing to the release of iPhone 5. On the receiving end are Microsoft, RIM and Symbian with reduced subscribers.

No matter if Apple files another case against Samsung or not, but the Korean Tech Giant has already overtaken the all-favorite Apple in terms of market share in Smartphones. But it includes all the Samsung Smartphones running on different platforms including Android, Windows and Bada. While Nokia was once the leading shareholder of the Smartphone industry, now has a very mere contribution of 6.6%. But when it comes to the Operating Platform, there is no stopping Android which now rules the department with 68% of share and Apple having 17%. While Microsoft is still the leading party in Desktops and Laptops, phone market is new for it managing only 3.5%.

Before the existence of either Android or iOS, Microsoft and Symbian were the leaders who are now just a ‘part’ of the industry. But this has been made possible due to the huge no. of apps available in both Android and Apple stores compared to Windows Marketplace with both hitting the 25 billion downloads mark recently.

The whole discussion depicts the dynamic nature of market and the shifting trend from Nokia to Apple to Samsung. Guess what will be next?

The release of every new phone is greeted with great excitement by all gadget enthusiasts. Especially, releases like the new Lumia 920T which has been awaited for so long. While AT&T grabbed exclusive rights to Lumia 920 in the United States it seems like China Telecom will get that honor in China for the 920 T variant. While there is a confirmation on the fact that the phone will host the same features as the Lumia 920 the colors in which it will be available has not been confirmed yet.

The impact of this move can be understood from the fact that the popularity of Nokia is much greater in China than the United States. In fact Nokia still has a considerable market share in rest of Asia too.

Latest news suggests that Verizon is launching a new Lumia 9xx with higher megapixel. Rumors were already ripe about the new 41 MP camera module.
Lumia 9xx has the same camera module as Lumia 920 but with a higher megapixel count. But this could spell disaster for the Lumia 920 which is being carried by AT&T which has been launched recently. It is highly probable that camera will be of 12 Mega Pixel resolution than the suggested 41 MP as this figure has been circulated widely. The model is believed to be priced at the $ 149.
